Over the last four weeks parents of Nursery, Reception & Year 1 children have been attending a Family Learning Opportunity here in school to help them help their children to develop their knowledge of phonics.
For the first part of the session the parents have been given lots of tips and made resources to use at home. Then after a well deserved cup of tea and a biscuit their children have then joined them to end the session playing games and learning new ideas.
The children really enjoyed seeing their parents ‘working’ in school and when the parents were presented at the end of the sessions with a certificate from Mrs Bottomley (Head Teacher) you could really see the pride and excitement in the childrens eyes!
We hope to repeat these sessions in the near future and also hold other workshops such as ‘keeping up with the kids – maths’ and literacy!
If you would like to know more or have suggestions for other sessions please see Mrs Heslop (Parental Involvement Officer) in school.
We hope you will be able to join us!

Home Learning Evening
On Wednesday 2nd October we held a very successful Home Learning Event here in school. Over 70 parents/carers attended to gain ideas on how to help their child at home. There was also an opportunity to taste some of our delicious school meals and buy school uniform from our new2u uniform stall.
Here a few comments that we received from you with regards to the evening:
‘I feel that this event demonstrated what amazing dedication you and your team have towards home school partnerships, and that the needs of the child are at the heart of what you do’
‘We have bear words up around our house now and my daughter walks around in her pj’s telling me the words she recognises. A simple but great tip given to us by the class teacher’
‘I like the idea of children learning through everyday activitites at home and it makes us as parents feel good we are making a conscious effort’
‘We found the teachers knowledgeable, enthusiastic & helpful’
‘Food and mothers is always a sensitive topic and just meeting the dinner ladies and knowing the food tastes great puts my mind at rest’
Bursting with ideas and activities to get children outdoors exploring and making memories to treasure.
